Cofty, "Assume it was official and your relatives followed it."
I personally would not want to associate with anyone who had previously shunned me.
imagine that the cult decided to stop shunning family members on the proviso that the dfd person was not actively trying to attack the cult.. (please don't debate whether or not this is likely - it's hypothetical).
how would you respond to your family?.
personally i think i would be less than cooperative.

I count myself most fortunate that I never had family that were in the JWs.
By asking if they would stop shunning do you mean official Watchtower position or the individuals? Even if it were the official Watchtower position individuals within it might not necessarily follow it.

Isn't this a health hazard?

when my niece was very little (over 20 years ago), barely walking or talking, my mother decided to teach her "where jehovah lives".
she would coach her and say, "where does jehovah live?
" in a sing-song voice.
all witnesses are ministers.
from the time a witness is baptized, they are considered ministers.
this religion is getting more ridiculous each passing day.
Calling children "ministers" is really no more ridiculous than the Mormon church calling 20 year olds elders.
i think he probably will (it is the us after all) but i hope he doesn't.
he caused incredible pain and suffering to men, women and children who had never done anything to him.
many died in unimaginable agony, others are disabled for life.
The purpose of jail is not to punish or torture people but to isolate them from society including a prison society. Every prisoner should get solitary confinement.
Although I agree with the death penalty in principle in practice I would have life in prison. About 10% of those convicted are likely to be innocent, railroaded through an unfair trial. Life in prison will give the innocent a chance to vindicate themselves. It's happened before.
how long did the flood last?how long can land vegetation survive submerged in seawater?how long can freshwater fish survive in saltwater?how old is human civilization?

neat blue dog,
"4: Pretty much all researchers agree that civilization began to record their history only less than 5,000 years ago, and for some reason the humans in the thousands of years before that didn't."
There are cave paintings that are tens of thousands of years old.
"Explain how a plant that ok can be dated with pinpoint certainty."
Tree rings. They overlap in fossilized trees. There's a whole field of science that deals with that. It's called dendrochronology.
"who said saber tooth tigers ate grass?"
Most young earth creationists claim that there were no predators before the Fall and that lions ate grass and tyrannosaurus ate palm trees or their coconuts.
i reworded a variation of a common critique of atheists to my own liking.
no, i do not hate atheists, i love them!
they keep me from getting bored.
OnTheWayOut,
"All I can say is that Perry wants to not "continuously weave concepts and beliefs into [his] identity" but wants to only find things that agree with his rigid concepts and beliefs that he has already woven."
That is known as confirmation bias.
Perry actually strengthens his beliefs by coming here and watch us try to reason with him. He is a psychic vampire who's feeding off on our energy when we try to explain things to him. The more we explain the more it strengthens his delusions.
allow me to begin with a clarification: when i say i am one of jehovah's witnesses, i don't mean that i am an advocate of the watchtower society or a devotee of some of its more controversial false teachings.
i mean that i am a christian, a disciple of jesus christ dedicated to jehovah god, and who remains in union with my brothers and sisters who make up the family of faith that globally refers to itself as jehovah's witnesses.
some totally understand the distinction between the family of brothers and sisters and the corporate organization known as the watchtower society (wts).
